When do you need storage during a move?
Whenever the move-out date does not match the move-in date, or when the new place cannot take everything yet. These are the most common cases:
- A gap between contracts: The old flat is given up at the end of the month, the new one only becomes free weeks later. Your belongings wait in storage until then.
- Renovating before moving in: If you want to paint or replace the floor first, moving in is easier when the furniture is not already in the room.
- The new place is smaller: Not everything fits straight away. Instead of sorting under time pressure, put the rest into a storage unit and decide calmly.
- Moving in together: Two households bring plenty of duplicates. Whatever nobody wants to throw out goes into storage for a while.
- A new job in a new city: If you start out in a furnished place or on trial, your furniture stays here until you decide.
- Moving abroad: There are often weeks between packing and shipping, and not everything should travel with you.
- Estates and house clearance: When a home has to be cleared after a death or before a move into care, the deadline usually presses hardest. The contents go into storage until everything can be sorted calmly.
- Separation or a sudden move: When it has to happen quickly and there is no new home yet, your things have a safe place immediately.
