Storing tools: a storage unit for materials and machinery

The garage is full, the cellar is damp and the van is not a warehouse. At Space Plus, tradespeople and DIYers rent their own storage unit for tools, machinery and materials, from 1 m² and from 7 days.

A tool store in self-storage is a lockable room that you use on your own and can enter whenever you like. Our storage rooms are clean, dry and shielded from light, with ventilation against condensation. Metal does not rust, measuring equipment keeps working, and boxes and packaging stay dry.

You have access 365 days a year until late in the evening, via the app and without an appointment.

Who benefits from a tool store?

A storage unit for tools makes sense as soon as materials and machinery need more room than you have at home or at the workshop. It sits between a shelf in the cellar and a commercial unit. These groups use it most:

From the DIYer to the trade business

  • Trade businesses without their own store: Machinery, scaffolding parts and leftover materials have a fixed place instead of living permanently in the van. Digital keys give the whole team access to the stock.
  • Self-employed tradespeople and one-person firms: Your own materials store is far less effort than a commercial unit, and you rent only as much space as you actually need.
  • DIYers with a full garage: When the workbench, machines and materials take up the parking space, a storage unit gets the car back into the garage.
  • Building projects and renovations: Tiles, laminate, doors and bathroom fittings stay dry until that stage of the work comes round.
  • Seasonal equipment: Garden tools in winter, grit and snow shovels in summer. Whatever is not in use is not in the way.
  • Workshop moves and refits: If the workshop is relocated or rebuilt, temporary storage bridges the gap.
  • Clubs and residents' associations: Shared tools, stage equipment or club materials are kept centrally, and everyone authorised can collect them.
  • Heavy machinery: Our facilities have goods lifts, and in Krefeld every unit is at ground level. Loading and unloading areas are sheltered from the weather.

What can you store in self-storage and what not?

Tools, machinery and building materials can all be stored at Space Plus. Anything that can burn, leak or give off fumes is not allowed, because it puts your neighbours' units at risk too.

Allowed: hand tools and power tools, stationary machines, ladders and scaffolding parts, building materials, measuring equipment and tool cases, garden tools without an engine.

Not allowed: lithium batteries and rechargeable packs, fuels, lubricants and solvents, paints and varnishes, anything with a combustion engine such as a lawnmower or chainsaw, explosives and ammunition including cartridges for nail guns, weapons and used tyres, perishable food.

The one tip that matters most: the cordless drill can go into storage, the battery cannot. Lithium batteries can ignite by themselves, so take rechargeable packs out and leave them at home.

If you are unsure, ask the team at your location. The usage policy in your rental agreement is what applies.
